Welcome to the 2009 San Diego International Wine Competition. Welcome to the official website of the 26th annual San Diego International Wine Competition, scheduled for the weekend of March 21-22, 2009 at the Westgate Hotel in downtown San Diego.
Michael Franz, Editor of Wine Review Online, will return for a third consecutive year as Chief Judge. Michael will oversee more than 30 wine professionals as they evaluate thousands of wines and award silver and gold medals to deserving entrants.
The San Diego International Wine Competition, one of the oldest and most prestigous wine competitions in the United States, is the companion event to the Wine & Roses Charity Wine Tasting, which benefits the charities of the Social Service Auxiliary of San Diego.
Wine & Roses, which each year attracts a crowd of 1000 or more wine lovers, is scheduled for June 14, 2009 at the Westgate Hotel. The 2008 event featured more than 30 top local chefs, and wineries from around the globe. In addition to the tasting, hundreds of cases of medal-winning wines were sold, benefiting SSA and its charities, primarily Camp Oliver, a summer retreat for children in the mountains of San Diego's East County.
